Introducing new entry-level Sciroccos to the UK market, Volkswagen has also offered new -less powerful, but more fuel efficient- 1.4 TSI and a 2.0 TDI engines. Although being definitely slower than the 2009 VW Scirocco GT, the new cars are also much cheaper and consume significantly less fuel in the combined cycle.
For example, the 2009 VW Scirocco 1.4 TSI takes 8 seconds to accelerate from stand-still to 62mph. At the same time, the car returns impressive 42.8 mpg (5.5L/100km). The new 140 PS 2.0-liter TDI engine achieves the 62mph marks in long 9.3 seconds, but features 55.4 mpg (4.25L/100km) when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, and 51.4 mpg (4.6L/100km) when mated to a DSG gearbox.
As to the pricing, equipped with a standard 6-disc CD changer, air conditioning, 17-inch alloys and an adaptive chassis control system, the 2009 VW Scirocco 1.4 TSI starts at affordable £18,790. More feature-stuffed VW Scirocco GT 2.0 TDI with a DSG transmission can be ordered at more impressive £21,770.

2008 Skoda Superb to compete against VW Passat?

Based on the current Volkswagen Passat and targeted against the new Ford Mondeo, the upcoming Skoda Superb executive sedan will offer its prospective owners so much living space and comfort features that it very well may rival its bigger brother, the Passat itself.
The vehicle will be officially unveiled to the public only in March 2008 during the upcoming Geneva motor show in Switzerland, but the Czech company has already revealed first teaser image of the refreshed Superb. As you can see, the exec looks almost like the donor car from Germany. Its "face" is a trifle gloomy though, just like the car is experiencing a severe case of hangover, or, perhaps a kind of sleep deprivation.
Sources say that the new Skoda Superb will be available with a choice of three turbocharged and supercharged TSI units and a couple of newer oil-burners may also join the range. The diesel engines are likely to be offered as 1.9- and 2.0-liter common rail units.
The car is expected to be launched in summer 2008 at quite an affordable price.

New Golf Estate

Volkswagen's new Golf Estate, made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. It's bold new look takes the Golf into another dimension; combining sharp dynamics with space and versatility.
With the largest loadspace of any Golf to date the new estate extends the versatility of the Golf range. As well as a bold new look to the rear of the car, the Golf Estate benefits from fresh styling at the front together with several desirable practical and dynamic touches. While practicality and load lugging are high on the Golf Estate's agenda the sharp driving dynamics of the hatchback are retained.

To aid practicality the rear seats fold flat into the floor to reveal a versatile 1,550-litres of boot space complete with multiple load hooks. And for inspiration, just look up and enjoy the unrestricted view through the enormous panoramic sliding roof (optional at extra cost). The Golf Estate, space for ideas.
A choice of 3 engines including a 1.6 105 PS petrol engine, or 2 diesel engines; 1.9 TDI 105PS or 2.0 TDI 140PS will be available on the new Golf Estate. Diesel engines will be available with a choice of six-speed manual or DSG gearboxes.

2007 Volkswagen Rabbit - Auto Shows

VW ditches the Golf name for its $15,000 hatchback.
BY MIKE DUSHANE, April 2006
As VW image guru Kerri Martin tries to recapture VW’s former funky enthusiast flair, she’s taking VW back to its roots. She did this to great effect at BMW’s Mini division, and since arriving at VW with Mini’s former ad agency, she’s made a lot of changes. From the GTI’s new commercials stressing German engineering to the fact that the GTI has a firm, well-damped suspension (unlike its marshmallow predecessor), VW is refocused on its performance past. Taking the retro theme a step further is the fifth-generation Volkswagen Golf that debuted in Europe last year: In the U.S., it will be called Rabbit, just like the car’s first generation. We haven’t driven the Rabbit, but VW assures us that it will be a driver’s car, even with an unimpressive-sounding 150 horsepower from its 2.5-liter five-cylinder. With a price that starts around $15,000 with decent equipment (except good wheels), it might just be the vehicle that puts VW back on hip young shoppers’ radar. If the Rabbit has better quality than the outgoing model it replaces, VW’s product turnaround will be more than just marketing-speak.
